What it protects you from.

Finding out at final account.

A report rebuilt by hand each month was out of date the day it was issued. Live position instead, updated as costs land.

Costs you've committed but can't see.

POs raised, work instructed, day works run without a sheet. Commitments and accruals sit in the report before the invoice arrives.

Terms you signed and never re-read.

The 14 days that became 30. The capped retention that became uncapped. Extracted, shown, applied.

Why this matters for
SME contractors.

You don't have a contracts department. Your commercial director reads the contract once, at signing, then works from memory for the next eighteen months. Nobody is checking whether the job is being run the way it was signed.

You're the one handed the amended contract, not writing it. The employer's solicitor drafted the amendments. You accepted them at tender and inherited every one.

When it goes wrong, they have a contracts team and you have a QS with four other jobs on. The record you didn't keep is the case you can't make.

The contract knowledge of a contracts department, without the overhead.

Where the line is.

Coreloops isn't document control, and it isn't a spreadsheet replacement for your commercial team. It's the layer between the two: it holds what your contract says, and makes sure every number that follows — applications, retention, variations, cost reports — agrees with it.

We're not lawyers, and this isn't legal advice. Coreloops doesn't interpret your contract, tell you whether a term is fair, or argue your case. It reads what's there, puts it where you can see it, and keeps your numbers consistent with it. What you do about a term is still your call, and your solicitor's.
